I create visuals live often to go with live audio (often but not exclusively my own) use AfterEffects, Photoshop and Illustrator and Final Cut Pro to create/edit video loops and graphics to layer in Modul8. I've just been projecting stuff on a castle to celebrate Henry VIII 500 years since his coronation have a look here :
